NABC District 7 Second Team -- Senior Derrick Walton Jr. was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 7 second team. Walton, who is averaging 15.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game, is joined on the second team by Minnesota's Nate Mason, Northwestern's Bryant McIntosh, Nebraska's Tai Webster and Wisconsin's Nigel Hayes. The first team consists of Maryland's Melo Trimble, Purdue's Caleb Swanigan, Wisconsin's Ethan Happ, Iowa's Peter Jok and Michigan State's Miles Bridges. » NABC Release

USBWA All-District 5 Team -- Senior Derrick Walton Jr. was one of 10 members selected to the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District 5 team. Walton was one of seven Big Ten players on the squad as he was joined by Illinois' Malcolm Hill, Michigan State's Miles Bridges, Minnesota's Nate Mason, Northwestern's Bryant McIntosh, Purdue's Caleb Swanigan and Wisconsin's Ethan Happ. Rounding out the team was Central Michigan's Marcus Keene, Notre Dame's Bonzie Colson and Valparaiso's Alec Peters. » USBWA Release
Derrick Walton Jr. (March 6)
Co-Big Ten Player of the Week -- Senior Derrick Walton Jr. continued his stellar play in the late Big Ten season play as he closed out the regular season in grand fashion, averaging 16.5 points and 11.0 assists per game this past week. Opening the week in one of the conference's best games of the season at Northwestern (March 1), Walton posted 15 points, six assists, two rebounds and was 4-for-8 from long range. However, U-M lost on a last-second layup by the Wildcats. Closing out the regular season on the road, Walton posted his fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and a career-best and U-M record 16 assists at Nebraska, while adding a season-best five steals. The 16 assists broke U-M legend Gary Grant's 30-year-old record of 14 assists in a game, which he did twice during the 1986-87 season. » Big Ten Release
Derrick Walton Jr. (Feb. 13)
Co-Big Ten Player of the Week -- Senior Derrick Walton Jr. guided U-M to wins over Michigan State (86-57) and at Indiana (75-63), posting two 20-plus point games -- his fourth and fifth straight. He averaged 22.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists overall while shooting 60.9 percent (14-for-23) from the field, 83.3 percent (5-for-6) from long range and a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line. He opened the week with 20 points and eight assists against the Spartans, helping him reach 400 assists and become the third Wolverine with 1000P-400R-400A. Closing the week, he went 7-for-13 from the field, 2-for-3 from long range and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line as he tied a season best with 25 points in U-M's first road win at Indiana. In fact, he helped U-M to its first win in Bloomington since 2009, snapping a six-game road losing streak at Assembly Hall, as well as a sweep of the Hoosiers in the regular season for the first time since 1994-95. » Big Ten Release

Senior CLASS Award Nominee -- Senior Derrick Walton Jr. has been named a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award. Walton is one of 30 men's basketball seniors to be named to the list. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the award honors the attributes of NCAA Division I senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. The list will be pared down to 10 student-athletes in February, when a nationwide fan vote coupled with votes from coaches and media will determine the recipient of the award. » Release
Zak Irvin (Nov. 30)
Allstate NABC Good Works Teams Nominee -- The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and Allstate Insurance Company announced senior Zak Irvin was one of 181 nominees for the 2017 Allstate NABC Good Works Team. The fifth annual award honors college basketball players for their community service and leadership among their peers. A selection committee will choose a 10-member team comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five student-athletes from Divisions II, III and the NAIA, who will be honored at the 2017 Final Four. The final roster of 20 award recipients will be unveiled in February. » NABC Release
