WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team clinched the doubles point and five out of six singles matches en route to a 6-1 win over Purdue on Sunday afternoon (April 2) at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
Michigan claimed the doubles point for the 13th time this season with victories on courts three and one. The pairing of Myles Schalet and Kevin Wong claimed a 6-3 win at No. 3 for the first win in doubles play, while No. 30 ranked Connor Johnston and Jathan Malik clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 triumph at No. 1.
Carter Lin made quick work on court five in singles play, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2 to earn U-M its second point of the afternoon. Davis Crocker proceeded with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 to put the Maize and Blue on the brink of the team win and improving the score to 3-0.
A win by No. 74 Schalet at court three sealed Michigan's 14th win in dual match play, taking the match in two sets, 6-3, 6-4.
The Wolverines also claimed points on courts one and two with victories by No. 91 Malik (1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-4)) and Alex Knight (3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8)), while Purdue picked up its lone point with a win on court four.
Michigan will return home to the Varsity Tennis Center this coming Friday (April 7) as it plays host to Minnesota at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
