SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Freshmen Harrison Brown, Kristofer Siimar and Mattias Siimar kicked off their University of Michigan men's tennis careers by competing in the Bobby Bayliss Invitational, held Friday through Sunday at Notre Dame. Brown and Mattias Siimar picked up two singles victories apiece, while the Siimar brothers teamed up for a win in doubles play.
Mattias Siimar picked up his first victory on Friday over AJ Joshi, defeating the Northwestern foe, 6-1, 6-3, then went on to defeat Guillermo Cabrera (Notre Dame), 6-1, 7-5. Saturday, Brown defeated Jasper Koenen (Michigan State) in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 10-8, while Kristofer Siimar collected a win over Kennosuke Nouchi of Western Michigan (6-4, 6-4). Brown earned his second triumph of the weekend Sunday when he defeated Robert Krill of Wisconsin, 6-2, 6-2.
The Siimar brothers teamed up on Sunday to take down Will Howells and Brendan Kempin of Notre Dame, 6-4.
Michigan will be back in action Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 19-23, when it hosts the ITA Midwest Regional Championships at the Varsity Tennis Center.
