
Knight Falls Short in Second Round of ITA All-American Main Draw

TULSA, Okla. -- University of Michigan men's tennis junior Myles Schalet went 2-1 in the singles qualifying draw while senior Alex Knight held a 1-1 record in the main draw of the 2017 ITA All-American held Oct. 2-6 at University of Tulsa.
During the qualifying draw, Schalet picked up consecutive victories in straight sets, defeating Tim Handel of Northern Arizona, 6-2, 6-4 (Oct. 2) and then taking down Utah State's Jaime Barajas, 6-1, 6-2 (Oct. 3). In the third round against Giovanni Oradini (Mississippi State), Schalet battled back from a first-set tiebreaker loss, 6-7 (4), to take the second set in another tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), but ultimately fell short in the third set, 4-6.
In the first day of the main draw, Knight defeated Valentine Vacherot of Texas A&M in three sets to advance to the second round with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 score. The senior was unable to move on to the round of 16, however, falling short on day two to Constantin Schmitz (Tulane), 5-7, 4-6.
Michigan has a trio of freshman competing at Notre Dame's Bobby Bayliss Invitational this weekend (Oct. 6-8) in South Bend, Indiana.
