LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis program sent four members of its squad to the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships that were hosted by University of Southern California Thursday through Saturday (Oct. 26-28) at the Buntmann Family Tennis Center.
Junior Gabe Tishman took two matches in the qualifying rounds, battling back in three sets after dropping the first set, 4-6, 6-4, 10-4, over Tommy Lam of UC Davis to advance to the main draw. Tishman went on to take his first-round matchup in the main draw, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 over UCLA's Connor Rapp.
Junior Myles Schalet and sophomore Connor Johnston also earned first-round wins in main draw action against USC opponents. Schalet prevailed over Tanner Smith, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, while Johnston won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1, against Henry Ji.
Michigan will be back in action Wednesday through Sunday (Nov. 1-5) when seniors Alex Knight and Runhao Hua will compete in the ITA National Fall Championship in Indian Wells, California. Other members of the squad will travel south to Sarasota, Florida, to take part in the Lakewood Ranch Invitational, Thursday through Sunday (Nov. 2-5).
