After two weekends on the road, the No. 12-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team (2-2, 0-1 Big Ten) will make its home debut against No. 19 Illinois on Sunday (Jan. 22) at 2 p.m. in Crisler Center.
MEET INFO
Michigan leads the all-time series with Illinois 55-9-1 with wins in 47 straight. The last Fighting Illini win was in 1990. Last year, the Wolverines won 196.900-195.275 at Illinois and also won at the Big Ten Championships.
The Wolverines have won 17 consecutive home openers. The last loss in the first home meet of the year was in 1999 against Minnesota. U-M was 5-1 at home last year.
PROMOTIONS
Family Day -- Kids are encouraged to dress up as their favorite prince or princess, as Michigan gymnastics will have famous character cutouts on the concourse. The first 300 kids will be able to select a free pirate patch or glitter wand upon entry.
Postmeet Autographs -- Fans can meet with selected U-M gymnasts following the conclusion of the meet and get autographs or pictures.
Kids Zone -- Visit the Kids Zone on the concourse outside of section 114 for fun filled activities for kids, including face painting, block M face tattoos, a poster making station and more! Also bring your cameras for a picture with the Michigan gymnastics life-size cutouts.
Free MCard Admission -- All U-M faculty, staff and students can receive free admission by presenting their MCard at the Crisler Center Ticket Office beginning 90 minutes prior to the start of the meet.
LAST TIME OUT
U-M earned its first two victories of the season, improving to 2-2 with wins over Washington and Kent State. Michigan finished second to No. 20 Ohio State in the quad meet by just .075 points.
Senior Nicole Artz captured her 41st career individual title, posting a 9.950 on floor to match the top score in the nation so far; she earned Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week.
Sophomore Olivia Karas tied for the win on vault for her ninth career vault title, scoring a 9.900.
Polina Shchennikova had a good performance with a 9.825 on bars and a 9.800 on her first collegiate vault attempt.
TEAM 41
This is the 41st season of Michigan women's gymnastics and 28th under head coach Bev Plocki.
Team captains are seniors Artz and Talia Chiarelli.
The team slogan this year is "Money in the Bank."
U-M is ranked No. 12 after the first two weekends of the season with an average score of 195.625.
Michigan is ranked in the top 10 on vault and floor (tied for ninth in both events).
Artz is ranked tied for seventh nationally on floor and is tied for the top individual floor score this season with a 9.950.
