ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team, controlling the vast majority of possession and attacking influence, played to a 2-2 draw against the Yale Bulldogs Monday (Sept. 5) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
The match went into the half tied at 0-0, before the Bulldogs got on the board first in the 59th minute, as an opportunistic Ollie Iselin put home a loose ball in front of goal for the 1-0 lead.
The Wolverines continued to dominate the match in terms of quality and overall chances and were rewarded in the 70th minute. Following a throw-in from senior Rylee Woods deep in Yale's third, sophomore Ivo Cerda took a touch and found the foot of sophomore Francis Atuahene. With a natural nose for the goal, Atuahene struck a rocket that went through traffic and was slotted home to knot the match at 1-1.
A little more than two minutes later, senior Yamann Sahlool took a ball from junior Billy Stevens and took space at the top of the box. After shaking a pair of Yale defenders, Sahlool gave U-M the 2-1 lead with a right-footed strike with nearly 18 minutes to go in regulation.
After a Yale equalizer in the 79th minute that was the result of a fortunate bounce, U-M continued to boss the overtime session but ultimately settled for its third draw in four matches this season.
FT: Francis (69'), Sahlool (71') with the markers for us.
