AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Michigan baseball senior outfielder Cody Bruder was named to the 2016 Academic All-America second team on Friday (June 3) by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The award comes just two weeks after Bruder received a unanimous All-Big Ten First Team selection and just days after he was named to the Academic All-Big Ten list. Bruder represents one of just two Big Ten student-athletes to earn the prestigious honor, joining Minnesota's Matt Fiedler on the second team.
An evolutionary anthropology major from Corona, California, Bruder finished the season with a team-leading .372 batting average and ranked second on the team with 53 RBI. During his senior campaign, he earned a .485 slugging percentage and a .425 on-base percentage while playing every inning as Michigan's centerfielder. Since joining Michigan as a junior transfer for the 2015 season, Bruder has tallied a career batting average of .339 in 121 games played and ranks ninth all-time at Michigan for hits in a single season (86).
During his first season with the Maize and Blue in 2015, Bruder was selected to the All-Louisville Regional and Big Ten All-Tournament teams, while also earning a U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award. He graduated in May with a degree in evolutionary anthropology, focusing in zoology and the environment, owning an impressive 3.61 grade-point average.
Michigan has garnered nine Academic All-America awards in program history, most recently placing Kyle Bohm (second team) and Matt Butler (third team) on the list in 2005.
The Wolverines wrapped up the 2016 season last week with a trip to the 2016 Big Ten Tournament and a 36-21 overall record.
