The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team (20-6) will compete in the Ann Arbor NCAA Regional on Saturday (April 2) at 6 p.m. in Crisler Center.
THINGS TO KNOW
This will be the 26th time Michigan has competed in a NCAA Regional. The Wolverines have 11 regional titles, including back-to-back in 2013 and 2014. This is the eighth time Ann Arbor has played host for a NCAA Regional with Michigan winning five of those and advancing to NCAAs in all seven.
Individuals have enjoyed success at NCAA Regionals for Michigan with 12 winning the all-around, 12 vault, 20 bars, five beam and 12 floor. Michigan has nine NCAA Regional Gymnasts of the Year.
Practices on Friday are free and open to the public at Crisler Center. Eastern Michigan, Penn State and New Hampshire will practice from 1:15-3 p.m., and Auburn, Michigan and Stanford will practice from 4-5:45 p.m.
The rotation order for Michigan at the NCAA Regionals will be beam, bye, floor, vault, bye, bars
Junior Nicole Artz and freshman Olivia Karas were named NACGC/W Regular Season All-Americans. Artz was first team on beam and floor and second team in the all-around. Karas was first team on vault and floor and second team in the all-around.
Michigan won its 22nd Big Ten championship and third straight title with a score of 197.125 at Nebraska on March 19. The 22 Big Ten championships are 17 more than any other conference school and 21 of those 22 titles have come under Bev Plocki.
U-M won three individual titles at the Big Ten Championships for 87 all-time. Artz won both beam and floor, and sophomore Brianna Brown won bars.
Karas was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year after winning Freshman of the Week nine times this season.
Senior Lindsay Williams received the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
Five gymnasts were named to the Academic All-Big Ten team, including Artz, Brown, junior Talia Chiarelli, senior Austin Sheppard and Williams.
