ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team (17-4-4, 8-2-2-1 Big Ten) continues a stretch of eight straight Big Ten contests away from Yost Ice Arena with a weekend series at Wisconsin (6-12-6, 1-7-2-1 Big Ten) at the Kohl Center. Puck drops at 7 p.m. CST both Friday (Feb. 12) and Saturday (Feb. 13).
• The Badgers were off last weekend after a home sweep against Alaska on Jan. 29-30. Michigan and Wisconsin will meet for the 134th and 135th time this weekend, with the Wolverines owning a 70-54-9 record all-time against the Badgers. Michigan's nine game unbeaten streak (7-0-2) against Wisconsin is the longest for U-M in the series since a 10-game streak (9-0-1) that spanned eight years from 1994-2002. Earlier this season, the Wolverines took five out of six Big Ten points in their conference opening series against the Badgers on Dec. 4-5. In both games, the Wolverines rallied from deficits of two goals or more -- Michigan trailed 3-0 on Dec. 4 and won 6-4, and trailed 5-3 on Dec. 5 before earning a 6-6 tie (U-M shootout win).
• On Dec. 5, Michigan rallied from a two-goal third period deficit to earn a 6-6 regulation tie against Wisconsin at Yost Ice Arena. The Wolverines won the ensuing shootout, 2-0, on goals from JT Compher and Alex Kile to earn two points on the night in Big Ten play, taking five of six points overall on the weekend against the Badgers. Freshman goaltender Chad Catt, in his first extended action of the season, made 12 saves in regulation and two in the shootout. Catt replaced junior goaltender Zach Nagelvoort (16 saves) who was lifted in the second period after Wisconsin took a 4-3 lead midway through the second period. Senior forward Justin Selman (2G, A) led the Michigan offense and now has nine career goals against Wisconsin.
• On Jan. 12, 1923, Michigan played its first varsity game against the Badgers, with the Wolverines earning a 2-1 (2OT) win at Weinberg Coliseum, with Eddie Kahn scoring the first goal for Michigan and Robert Anderson notching the game-winner to give U-M a historic win.
• Senior forward Cristoval 'Boo' Nieves needs just two more points to become the 83rd member of the 100 point club in Michigan Hockey history. Nieves, who has 98 points (24G, 74A), would become Michigan's first player to reach 100 points since David Wohlberg (111 career points) reached the mark in 2011-12. Junior forwards JT Compher (93 points, 33G, 60A) and Tyler Motte (88 points, 43G, 45A) are next in line to reach the mark.
• After another big weekend, leading Michigan with four points (3G, A), Tyler Motte leads the nation with 25 goals and has a goal in nine straight games. Motte's goal-scoring streak is the longest by a Michigan player in the last 20 seasons, surpassing Brendan Morrison's eight-game goal scoring streak during the 1995-96 season. Motte has 16 points (10G, 6A) in his last five contests. In 25 games, Motte has a new single season high for points (25G, 14A) with 39, surpassing his 31 points (9G, 22A) recorded last season.
