ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- A pair of athletes from the University of Michigan men's track and field team will compete in the USA Senior Outdoor Championships and the Junior Outdoor Championships from June 26-28 at the University of Oregon's Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, the site of the recent NCAA Outdoor Championships (June 10-13).
Senior/junior co-captain Mason Ferlic will return to Eugene for the second time in three weeks after competing in the 5,000m race and 3,000m steeplechase at the NCAA meet, while freshman Brennan Munley is making his first trip to Track Town USA, running in the junior division.
A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, Ferlic will again run the steeplechase event on the track at Hayward Field. His collegiate-best time in the event -- 8:35.45 -- was set at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds (May 30) in Jacksonville, Florida, and ranks as sixth-fastest in program history.
Fresh off his completed freshman year where he scored at both the indoor and outdoor Big Ten Championships, Munley will run in the 800m race at the junior national meet. He owns an outdoor collegiate-best time of 1:50.24, set at the Cal-UVA Tri-Meet early in the outdoor season (April 4).
The meet will serve as the Team USA qualifier for this year's IAAF World Championships and IAAF World Junior Championships, which will be held from Aug. 22-30 at the National Stadium in Beijing, China. It will also be the Team USA qualifier for the Pan Am Games, which are July 10-26 in Toronto, Canada.
