Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On falling behind early ... "That's a tough way to start. We knew they were a good first period team. They got the jump on us. We gave up goals to easily and too early, and it was hard to get those goals back. I thought our team battled back but nevertheless you give a team a three-goal lead at home, it's going to be hard to overcome that."
On the team's comeback efforts ... "Well our team's not going to quit. We're going to keep playing and trying to turn the game around. It's a game of momentum. But every time we got something going in our favor they bounced back. That late goal, the (fifth) goal was a huge goal. When you get within a goal or two and then they score, you're not going to win a game giving up six goals."
On special teams being the difference tonight ... "We've got to be better on the PP and we've got to be better on the PK. We made mistakes that cost us the game."
On improvements that need to be made before tomorrow's game ... "We have to better without the puck and we have to better with the puck. It's as simple as that. We have to be better offensively and better defensively. "
U-M Junior Forward Andrew Copp
On the volume of penalties in the game ... "Yeah, I think it disrupted our flow. We had some good cycles going 5-on-5. We had some flow to our game, some momentum. The penalties kind of jump started us too. Our power play got us going but obviously when you take penalties at the time of the game when you're trying to battle from behind, it's tough to come back from. It disrupted our rhythm and flow to our game."
On talk before the game of getting off to a good start ... "It was talked about a lot. We didn't take care of that, in all aspects. I think our goaltending, our forwards and our defense weren't as ready as they needed to be tonight. I'm sure that's something that we're going to need to focus on tomorrow, especially with the early start."
On what needs to change tomorrow ... "A lot of it's the start, and the mentality. As soon as we got behind we started being more desperate. We've got to be desperate right from the start, playing with a sense of urgency and I think that will take care of things tomorrow."
