Michigan fell to 3-5-0 in the all-time series against Penn State, including a 1-2-0 record at Pegula Ice Arena. The Wolverines have lost four straight road contests and are now 4-9-0 this season in road contests (3-4-0 in Big Ten road games).
Justin Selman recorded seventh multiple point effort (G, A) of the season and now has 19 points (10G, 9A) in his last 13 games and 20 points overall on the season. Selman had 13 points (5G, 8A) in his first two years combined at Michigan.
Michigan finished the night 2-for-7 on the man advantage and scored two or more power play goals for the 10th time this season. Michigan has scored power play goals in four straight contests, and is now 7-for-18 (38.9%) on the power play over the last four games. The Wolverines fell to 8-2-0 on the season when scoring multiple goals on the man advantage.
Zach Hyman (A) needs two points to become the first Michigan player to top 50 points in a single season since Carl Hagelin, who had 50 points (19G, 31A) in 2009-10. Hyman leads the Big Ten in scoring with 48 points (19G, 29A).
Dylan Larkin (G) leads all Big Ten freshmen with 41 points (13G, 28A) on the season. Larkin has the most points by a Wolverine freshman in a single season since Aaron Palushaj had 44 points (10G, 34A) in 2007-08.
Both Larkin (3G, 6A) and Hyman (3G, 8A) have points in five straight games. JT Compher (4G, A) and Andrew Copp (G, 2A) have points in three straight.
Michigan outshot Penn State 45-43 on the night and is No. 6 in the nation with 34.32 shots per game. U-M has outshot teams in 22 of 31 games, with a 14-8-0 record in those contests.
Cutler Martin's goal gave Michigan defensemen 20 goals in 31 games this season. In 2013-14, Michigan defensemen scored eight goals in 35 games. Zach Werenski (8G, 15A) leads all Big Ten defensemen with eight goals on the season with Michael Downing (5G, 15A) right behind. U-M has the No. 7 scoring defense in the nation with 82 points (20G, 62A). Kevin Lohan (2G, 8A), and Cutler Martin (5G, 8A) have also made significant contributions on the blue line.
