
Michigan Ranked Seventh Nationally in Preseason Coaches Poll

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team has been ranked No. 7 in the 2016 preseason coaches poll, the same spot the team finished in last season.
The Wolverines received 1,912 points in the coaches poll, just 10 behind UCLA. Oklahoma received 29 first-place votes for the top spot and will face U-M in Norman, Oklahoma, on Feb. 26. Also receiving first-place votes were No. 2 Florida (15), No. 3 Alabama (4), No. 4 Utah (14) and No. 5 LSU (3). Michigan closes out its home schedule vs. the Utes on Friday, March 4, at 7 p.m.
Michigan's schedule is packed full of ranked teams this season. The season opener on Jan. 2 at the Cancun Classic in Cancun, Mexico, will pit the Wolverines against No. 13 Arkansas and Iowa. The home opener will be the following weekend on Saturday, Jan. 9, at 4 p.m. against No. 9 Georgia.
The Wolverines will face No. 22 Ohio State on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 4 p.m. for the Autism Awareness meet. The team will then hit the road for meets vs. No. 15 Illinois and No. 11 Nebraska. On Feb. 19, Michigan will travel to Cedar City, Utah, to square off against No. 24 Southern Utah. U-M also has No. 17 Penn State and No. 20 Minnesota on the schedule as part of the Big Five Meet in State College, Pennsylvania, on March 12.
