Hua Wins Singles Draw at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. -- University of Michigan men's tennis freshman Runhao Hua (Shanghai, China/Edison Academics) won the Cordish singles draw in his first career tournament as a Wolverine, defeating Jean Thirouin of Cornell, 6-4, 6-1, in the final round of the Princeton/Farnsworth Ivy Invitational, held Friday through Sunday (Sept. 19-21) at Lenz Tennis Center. Hua didn't lose a single set the entire tournament.
Five of U-M's seven players were in action over the weekend, with Rua and No. 53-ranked senior Alex Petrone (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs Prep) reaching the semifinal rounds in their respective singles draws. Redshirt freshman Alex Knight (Miami Shorts, Fla./Michael Kropp HS), senior Michael Zhu (Princeton, N.J./Keystone National) and sophomore Tyler Gardiner (Novi, Mich./Northville) also competed in singles draws. The doubles pair Gardiner and Hua also participated, while the tandem of Petrone and Zhu lost in the quarterfinal round of the Orange Draw.
Michigan returns to the court on Sept. 29-Oct. 1 for the ITA All-American Qualifying tournament in Tulsa, Okla.
