ROSEMONT, Ill. -- After winning his first collegiate start at the Wolverine Intercollegiate, University of Michigan men's golf freshman Kyle Mueller (Athens, Ga./Athens Academy) was selected today (Wednesday, Sept. 10) as the Big Ten's Golfer of the Week by the conference office.
In his first start for the Wolverines, Mueller claimed medalist honors at the Wolverine Intercollegiate with a seven-under 206 while helping U-M post a seven-under 845 team total to win its home event by 10 shots.
Parring 11 of his first 12 holes at the U-M Golf Course, he birdied five of his final six holes to finish his first collegiate round with a four-under 67. He followed with a one-under 70 putting him tied for second after the first day of play. Mueller then finished his college debut in style, carding a two-under 69 to finish with a seven-under 206 total to claim medalist honors, fending off 2013 champion Cody Blick of San Jose State in the process.
Mueller and U-M will travel to Olympia Fields, Ill., this weekend for the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational, Friday through Sunday (Sept. 12-14) at the prestigious Olympia Fields Country Club.
