Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On what he liked out of his team tonight ... "I liked our team as the game wore on. I thought we got better and better. It was a game of missed chances. When you give them opportunities like we gave them, and we've got to put the puck on the net. We missed the net on our best chances. We have to better than that. We have to start better than that also. We turned the puck over on seemingly harmless turnovers, blue-line turnovers, we got trapped, and now they have a two-on-one on the first and a breakaway on the second. We have to take care of the puck. We have to take care of the puck and have to win those battles."
On the team's special teams play ... "Not good enough. There weren't a lot of penalties, but when there were we had to capitalize, and we just didn't."
On Travis Lynch switching lines in the third period ... "I put him out there with those guys. (Andrew) Sinelli was having a tough time handling the puck, and Travis Lynch makes good plays. He set up (Andrew) Copp on one, set up Tyler Motte on another play with a 3-on-3. We'll see about tomorrow. We have to generate some offense and play better defense."
On the play of Zach Naglevoort in net ... "He didn't give up bad goals. One was a 2-on-1; the other was a good shot off the post, a screen shot on the power play. I'm hoping he makes a save on one of those, but it happens."
U-M Sophomore Forward Max Shuart
On team's response after first intermission ... "I thought we came back pretty well. I think the general feeling in our locker room is that we played pretty good and just gave them a little bit too much out there, but we'll be ready to bounce back tomorrow."
On what needs to change most for tomorrow's game ... "We need to bear down pucks better and be smarter. Make sure we aren't turning the puck over in bad areas, and we will be fine. I thought we worked hard all night, and it's a problem for us."
On the frustration of generating 40 shots on net and scoring only two goals ... "Yeah, it's frustrating for us because we have been playing well and if we just smarten up our game a little bit and get back to some basics and keep playing hard, good things will happen for us. I thought Penn State's goalie played really well tonight, and we just need to respond tomorrow.
U-M Sophomore Defenseman Michael Downing
On team's response after first intermission ... "Just like Max said, we got off to a slow start. First five minutes were fine, but last 15 minutes we gave them too much time and that lost us the game."
On what needs to change most for tomorrow's game ... "We just have to start on time. This first period is killing us all year, and if you look at the shots throughout the whole game, we had 40 shots and two goals. That is just unacceptable. We had 10-15 chances, and none of them went in. So, we just got to bear down and bury our chances."
On team's frustration level ... "This whole losing thing is very frustrating. I mean, we are trying the best we can and doing everything we can. I like where we are at right now, it's just frustrating."
