Beginning the day off the back nine, Thompson birdied three of his first five holes. Opening with back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th holes, Thompson bogeyed the par-3 12th hole to sit one under par after three. A third birdie on the par-3 14th and a fourth on the 18th hole helped him make the turn three under. On the front nine, Thompson posted eight pars and a bogey.
Overall, Thompson has posted 26 pars, six birdies and four bogeys during his 36 holes of play.

QUOTES
U-M Senior Matt Thompson
On the second day of the NCAA Central Regional ... "After yesterday's round, Chris (Whitten) and I talked about what I needed to do. Today, I think I did exactly what we had discussed, but I had so many chances that just did not go in. I hit it better, putted better and got the most I could out of the round. I just missed a couple short ones and had a lot of 15 to 20 footers going over edges of the cup. So it would have been nice to get a few of those to go in, but with two under you can't be too disappointed."
On any changes in strategy for the final round ... "I don't think so. If I do the same things I did today, I could easily put a 64 or a 65 up on the board. I just have to go out and do it, make more putts and play my game."
