
Thirteen Wolverines Qualify for NCAA East Region Preliminaries

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Thirteen members of the University of Michigan men's track and field team have qualified for the NCAA East Region Preliminary Rounds, to be held May 26-28 at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind. The official list of qualifiers was released on Thursday (May 19).
To qualify for nationals, the top 48 athletes in each event (in descending order) will participate in two rounds (first round and quarterfinals) during the preliminary round. Twelve competitors from each individual event and 12 teams from each relay event will advance to the NCAA Championships. There are no qualifying marks used during the outdoor season.
The list of qualifiers from the field include: freshman Cody Riffle (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) in the shot put and discus, redshirt freshman Bradley James (East Lansing, Mich./Haslett) in the high jump, sophomores Austin DeWildt (Wyoming, Mich./Catholic Central) and Jack Greenlee (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) in the pole vault, and redshirt freshman Ethan Dennis (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grandville) in the hammer throw.
On the track, redshirt junior Craig Forys (Howell, N.J./Colts Neck) has qualified in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter run, as has freshman Ali Arastu (Northville, Mich./Northville) in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, fifth-year senior Nick McCampbell (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) and freshman Herman Washington (Blacklick, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) in the 110-meter high hurdles, and redshirt sophomore Bobby Aprill (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) in the 10,000-meter run.
Michigan will also its 4x400-meter relay team to the meet, which is comprised of Arastu, senior David St. Amant (Livonia, Mich./Churchill), junior Matthew Campbell (Rochester, Mich./Rochester) and sophomore Aaron Taylor (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams).
The alternates for the 4x400-meter relay are junior Nick Neuman (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) and freshman Eric Oliver (Berkeley, Calif./Homewood-Flossmoor [Ill.]).
