Opening up play at Mountain View Golf Club Friday morning, senior captain Ashley Bauer (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) paced the play early with a three-over 75, while sophomore Meagan Bauer (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) and senior Andrea Ratigan (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino HS) followed with 77s as U-M opened with a 307 first-round score.
It was Ratigan's turn to take the lead in Friday's second 18 holes as she posted a one-over 73, while Meagan Bauer and Ashley Bauer followed with a pair of 77s to help the Maize and Blue drop two strokes and close with a 305 second-round total. U-M stood in a tie for ninth after the first day of play with a 612 36-hole total.
In today's final round, Meagan Bauer got her chance to lead as she posted a U-M tournament-best round of even-par 72, while Ashley Bauer followed with a 75 and Ratigan carded a 78. Q U O T E S
Michigan Coach Cheryl Stacy
On the tournament weekend ... "I was really pleased to see the way Meagan (Bauer) finished today. She played well all weekend long. Overall, we just did not play as well as we had hoped. We had some high expectations after playing so well at the Rio Verde a few weeks ago. There was not one specific area; sometimes things just do not go your way. I am not exactly sure what it was, but I know Ashley (Bauer) and Andrea (Ratigan) were disappointed with their finishes, but they know they are capable of so much more. We had a three-week layoff and that might have affected us, but we had a lot of good shots out there and I can see us coming together more and more. This was a really good field and we did get some wins over some teams, which were nice, but we wish we were able to get a few more. We need to get out and play as much as the weather will allow us. We need to play, play and play."
N O T E S
For the first time this season Ashley Bauer was not U-M's top finisher. Meagan Bauer led U-M, tying for 23rd with a 226 tally. It marked the second time she has finished as the top Wolverine at an event after sharing that spot with her sister at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. Ashley Bauer finished as the top Wolverine in all eight previous events this season, sharing the top spot on two occasions.
With her start at the Mountain View Challenge, Ashley Bauer has still yet to miss a tournament in her career, playing in 45 straight events. Min Yean Tan has played in 33 straight events in her three seasons.
