Michigan Head Coach Bruce Berque
On Saturday's dual-match win ... "I thought we gave a great competitive effort. The whole team, even the guys that didn't score wins, competed hard and were very positive and supportive. Vanderbilt is a good team and their ranking isn't really reflective of how good they really are. So considering that, it was a good win for us to get, especially on the road to start the season."
On Chris Madden's match-clinching win ... "Chris was very impressive. In the beginning, he was making a few more errors than usual, but Sean [Maymi] helped him make some adjustments and he started playing much better. He looked very focused, aggressive and was under control. This is all considering that he hasn't had high-quality practices with us for a while but nevertheless delivered on a big win for us."
On Evan King and Jason Jung earning victories over higher-ranked opponents ... "They both played very well. Jason did a real good job of executing his doubles play and helping Evan along. It took a real good effort to win that doubles point. Both played well in singles, too. Jason was locked in and played every point hard. We know he has improved a great deal and today was a good example of his ability to play with focus. In the past, that has been a weakness, but to beat a player like Ryan Lipman the way that he did (6-0, 6-2) just doesn't happen very often."
