ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Junior defender Adam Keller (Franklin, Mich./Groves) scored the lone second-half goal to help lift the University of Michigan men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Lipscomb in the final game of the Michigan Invitational on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 13). Senior forward Mauro Fuzetti (Houston, Texas/Stratford) and Hamoody Saad (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn) tallied first-half goals to help the Wolverines jump out to an early lead.
The Wolverines opened the game with offensive pressure right from the start. Fuzetti picked up his third goal of the weekend in just the 10th minute of play. Senior defender Daniel Gray (Setauket, N.Y./Chaminade) cleared the ball out of the back and freshman midfielder Latif Alashe (Northville, Mich./Northville) made a great run through the middle of the field to collect the ball. Alashe connected on a short pass to Fuzetti, who slipped the ball past Lipscomb goalkeeper Patrick Walsh.
Saad picked up his first career goal off a free kick. Saad hit the ball at the set up Lipscomb wall and, after the ball deflected off the wall, the ball slipped right underneath the crossbar and out of the reach of the goalkeeper, giving the Wolverines a 2-0 halftime advantage.
It was a role reversal in the second half. The Bison came out shooting, holding a 12-5 shots advantage in the second stanza. The Bison had several good scoring opportunities in the second half, including two shots that bounced off the post, but it was Keller who sealed the U-M win on a set play. Saad used a cross off a corner kick to connect with Keller, who used his chest to put the ball past Lipscomb's goalkeeper.
The Wolverines conclude their three-game homestand on Wednesday (Sept. 16) when they host Detroit. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the U-M Soccer Complex.

Today's contest is the first-ever meeting between Michigan and Lipscomb and the first time the Wolverines have faced a team from the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Junior/sophomore middle Adam Shaw (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch) earned his eighth career start in today's contest and his first start of the season.
The Wolverines had nearly 30 alumni in attendance at this weekend's tournament for their annual alumni weekend festivities.
Freshman Hamoody Saad (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn) scored his first career goal and had his first career assist against Lipscomb.
The Wolverines have scored on two free kicks in back-to-back games. It marks the first time in the last three seasons that U-M has accomplished this feat.

Michigan Head Coach Steve Burns
On the team's performance ... "We have to have an energy level that can be sustained, particularly when we have a bench with some depth. We expect they can come in and raise the energy level of the game; we saw moments that it happened. Overall, I think we took our foot off the gas to a certain degree and allowed Lipscomb to fight its way back in a little bit and they did. Luckily, Adam Keller responded with a good goal on a corner kick to really ice the game."
