In the 118 total games played between the Wolverines and the Fighting Irish, U-M extends its lead to 68-45-5, including a 38-21-3 stand at Yost Ice Arena.
Head coach Red Berenson improves to 45-12-3 against Notre Dame.
The 4-1 win ended a two-game losing skid to UND.
Streaks and Peaks
Freshman Lee Moffie recorded a goal and an assist in tonight's contest, yielding the first multi-point game of his career. In his nine games as a freshman, he has now totaled six points (2-4-6).
Carl Hagelin's goal tonight extended his career-best point streak to six games with a 5-3-8 line. He also remains the team leader in goals (9) and points (16).
With his assist tonight, Matt Rust tied his all-time point streak at five games (2-4-6) set earlier this season. Rust is tied with Louie Caporusso for the team lead in assists (9).
Team Notes
Michigan's penalty-kill streak reached 25 straight chances after U-M denied the first three UND power plays tonight. The Fighting Irish broke the streak midway through the second period with a man-advantage marker. The last power-play goal U-M surrendered came against Bowling Green on Nov. 20, six games ago.
The Wolverines have recorded a power-play goal in seven consecutive games. U-M was 1-for-5 with the man-advantage tonight.
U-M recorded 35 shots in the win, marking the 12th game this season with Michigan putting 30-plus shots on the board.
The annual Teddy Bear Toss collected 1,383 stuffed animals for Mott Children's Hospital and other local charities.
Player Notes
Brian Lebler had a goal and an assist tonight, earning his first multi-point game of the season, and just the fifth of his career. His goal proved to be his second gamewinner of the season, and he becomes the first Wolverine to have multiple gamewinners this season.
With a helper tonight, senior defenseman Steve Kampfer now has five assists in as many games. His eight assists lead all U-M blue liners.
Louie Caporusso notched his 23rd career multi-point game. His three-point total (1-2-3) tonight was a season high. Caporusso has posted a 3-7-10 line over the last seven games. With nine assists for the season, Caporusso is tied with Rust for the team lead.
