ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- This weekend (Thu-Mon., Oct. 15-19), the University of Michigan men's tennis team will host the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships at the Varsity Tennis Center. It is the only home competition this fall for the Wolverines.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Thursday, Oct. 15 -- First and Second Round of Singles Qualifying
Friday, Oct. 16 -- Final Round of Singles Qualifying; First Round of Main Draw Singles and Doubles
Saturday, Oct. 17 -- Second and Third Round of Main Draw Singles; Singles Consolation; Second Round of Doubles
Sunday, Oct. 18 -- Quarterfinals of Main Draw Singles; Third Round and Quarterfinals of Doubles
Monday, Oct. 19 -- Semifinals and Finals of Main Draw Singles and Doubles
Play will begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, before switching to 9 a.m. Saturday through Monday. Times are tentative and subject to change.

JUNG MAKES A RUN
Junior Jason Jung (Torrance, Calif./West Torrance) had an impressive run at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships last week. Ranked No. 41 in the preseason poll, Jung reeled off three straight wins in the singles Main Draw to reach the round of eight (quarterfinals). He was upended by Robert Farah (USC), the third-ranked player in the country, 7-5, 6-3, but managed to defeat No. 10 Saketh Myneni (Alabama), 6-2, 6-1, in the second round. [ Read More ]
SEEING DOUBLE
The tandem of Jung and senior Mike Sroczynski (Chatham, N.J./Laurel Springs Prep) won the doubles title at last year's regional tournament. The two have only teamed together once this fall so far, defeating Alistair Felton/Andy Nguyen (Harvard), 8-5, at the Land Rover Napa Valley Invitational on Sept. 20.
Jung will team with senior George Navas (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Preparatory) this weekend, while Sroczynski will partner with junior Chris Madden (Lotus, Calif./Ponderosa).
FRESH FACES
Michigan freshmen Evan King (Chicago, Ill./Laurel Springs Prep) and Chris Cha (Eureka, Mo./University of Missouri High School) have had impressive starts to their collegiate careers through three weeks of the season. King stands at 3-2 after a run in singles qualifying last week at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., and a championship appearance at the Land Rover Napa Valley Invitational. Cha has not competed since the Napa Valley Invitational but compiled at 2-1 record in singles competition.
King and Cha will partner for doubles this weekend.

VARSITY TENNNIS CENTER
Completed in 1997, the $6 million indoor and outdoor complex provides the Wolverine tennis programs with a state-of-the-art on-campus training and competition site that is an excellent recruiting tool, and a premier and nationally competitive facility to nurture Michigan tennis players for many more decades to come. The Varsity Tennis Center has undergone a number of extensive upgrades over the past five years, including the addition of indoor and outdoor electronic scoreboards, individual video cameras on each indoor court, and new indoor and outdoor audio systems. This past summer, outdoor chair back seating was added overlooking six of the outdoor courts.
HEAD COACH Bruce Berque
Berque is in his sixth season as head of the Wolverines. In five seasons, he owns a career record of 82-51, including a 34-16 mark against Big Ten opponents. He has led Michigan to four straight NCAA Championship appearances, including a Sweet 16 berth in 2008. Since 2006, Berque owns a 54-29 record.
OUDSEMA JOINS STAFF
Scott Oudsema is in his first season as a volunteer assistant for the Wolverines. He achieved career-high ATP world rankings of No. 151 in doubles and No. 255 in singles in 2007, capturing USTA Challenger singles and doubles titles in Binghamton, N.Y., and a USTA Challenger doubles crown in Waikoloa, Hawaii. As a junior player, Oudsema was a two-time Australian Open doubles champion (2003-04), a U.S. Open doubles champion (2004) and a Wimbledon doubles champion (2004).
