
Maymi Receives Promotion to Associate Head Coach

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head men's tennis coach Bruce Berque announced Wednesday (Sept. 10) that assistant coach Sean Maymi has been promoted to associate head coach, effective immediately.
"Sean is an integral part of every aspect of our program," said Berque. "His knowledge and passion for the game are exceptional. Most importantly, he sets a tremendous example for our players with respect to his work ethic, discipline and personal character. I am thankful to our athletic administration for recognizing Sean's unique contributions."
"I am very excited about the new challenges and responsibilities that come with the promotion," said Maymi. "I am thankful that Bruce and the athletic department are confident in my abilities as a tennis coach. I am looking forward to the upcoming season and for the opportunity for the team to continue our success on a national scale."
Maymi has played an instrumental role in transforming the Wolverine program into a national contender sincehis arrivalon campus in the summer of 2006. Michigan has compiled an overall record of 40-14 (15-5 Big Ten Conference) during Maymis tenure, advancing past the first round of the NCAA Championship each season and achieving a final national ranking as high as No. 16. Maymi and Berque took the U-M program to new heights last year, as the Maize and Bluereached the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time since 1988. In recognition of his tremendous efforts during the 2007-08 season, the ITA named Maymi its Midwest Regional Coach of the Year. He became the first Michigan assistant coach to claim the honor since the award's inception in 1997.
