WINDSOR, Ontario -- Former University of Michigan men's track standout Kevin Sullivan (1994-98) qualified for his third Olympic Games to highlight the Wolverines' performances at the 2008 Canadian Olympic Trials, held Thursday through Sunday (July 3-6) at University of Windsor Stadium.
Sullivan finished third in the 1,500-meter run final (3:39.42) on Saturday. Having already achieved the Olympic "A" standard (3:36.60), he needed only to finish in the top four to secure his third trip to the Olympics. Taylor Milne won the title in 3:38.03.
Nate Brannen (2002-05) finished one spot ahead of Sullivan in the 1,500, placing second in 3:38.52, but Brannen has yet to hit the "A" standard. He has requested from Athletics Canada an extension to achieve the necessary time.
On Sunday, Andrew Ellerton (2003-06) finished third in the 800-meter run final, crossing the line in 1:47.44, but he fell short of hitting the "A+" standard of 1:45.24 that he needed in order to qualify for the Olympics.
Also competing on the final day of action was junior/sophomore Sean Pruitt(Cato, Wis./Valders HS) in the discus. Pruitt, a non-Canadian competitor, finished sixth in the event with a mark of 165-7 (50.47m), achieved on his second throw of the day. Pruitt also competed in the hammer throw Saturday and finished 12th overall with a mark of 167-4 1/4 (51.01m).
