U-M Captures Eight Regional Marks at EMU Invite

YPSILANTI , Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team had a huge day Saturday (April 19) at the Eastern Michigan Invitational at Olds/Marshall Track. The Wolverines were able to capture eight NCAA Mideast Regional qualifying marks, four victories and post 11 personal bests.

Junior/sophomore Brendan Lodge(Narragansett, R.I./Bishop Hendricken HS) began the strong day for the Wolverines, finishing first in the hammer throw with an NCAA regional and career-best mark of 194-1 (59.17m). Lodge wasn't the lone Wolverine in the event as junior/sophomore Vince Belitsos(Leonard, Mich./Oxford HS) placed second with a regional mark of 188-7 (57.48m). Senior/junior Dan Bedoya(Muskegon, Mich./Reeths-Puffer HS) also competed in the event with a personal best mark of 176-4 (53.76m) to take fifth.

Junior/sophomore Sean Pruitt(Cato, Wis./ Valders HS) set a two new personal records and regional marks in the shot put and discus to help display more Maize and Blue strength in the field events. Pruitt finished third in the shot put with a toss of 55-5 (16.89m) and second in the discus with a mark of 172-2 (52.49).

Also posting a new PR in the field was junior/sophomore Chris Baldwin(Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview HS) who finished fifth in the pole vault with a mark 15-7 (4.75m).

Sprinting onto the track events was fifth-year senior Stann Waithe(Towson, Md./Loch Raven HS) and senior Andrew Wechter(Shelby, Ohio/Shelby HS) who paced the Wolverines off the blocks in the 400-meter dash finishing first and second with NCAA Mideast Regional times of 46.56 and 46.80. Junior Andre Barnes (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield HS) placed fourth in the event with a new PR of 47.26 -- just slipping past his previous best of 47.27, set in the same meet last season.

Junior Adam Harris(Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North HS) maintained the winning ways on the track as he snapped the tape first in the 200-meter dash with a regional time of 21.03.
Junior/sophomore Sean McNamara(Elmhurst, Ill./York HS) finished first in the 1,500-meter run with a new personal record and regional time to claim the final victory of the day for the Wolverines. McNamara crossed the line with a time of 3:46.95 and was followed by junior/sophomore Brandon Fellows (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island HS) and freshman Craig Forys(Howell, N.J./Colts Neck HS) who finished fourth (3:49.68) and fifth (3:50.58), respectively.

The Wolverines will split meets as a portion will compete at the Penn Relays Thursday-Saturday (April 24-26) in Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa. The Wolverines will also send several members of the team to compete in the Cal Invitational Saturday (April 26) in Berkeley, Calif., with both meets scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
