FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The No. 20-ranked University of Michigan men's track and field team completed day one of competition at the Tyson Invitational late Friday night (Feb. 15) in the Randall Tyson Track Center. Juniors Lex Williams(Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter HS) and Adam Harris(Wheaton, Ill./North) each posted NCAA provisional times.
Co-captain Williams posted a provisional mark in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the line second in the invitational with a personal record time 13:47.57 -- just 0.57 a second shy of an automatic time. The 5,000-meter run invitational is a professionally filled competition; Williams finished seventh (13:49.36) in the event at last season's Tyson Invite.
Harrisalso posted an NCAA provisional time in the 60-meter dash to finish fourth (6.69). The performance marks the fourth time Harris has posted a provisional time in this event.
Sophomore Ciaran O'Lionaird(Cork, Ireland/De La Salle) and junior Justin Switzer(Waterford, Mich./Kettering HS) each ran in the one-mile championship, finishing sixth (4:06.95) and 16th (4:17.34), respectively. O'Lionaird was 0.36 a second from setting a new personal record.
Freshman Robert Peddlar(Kingston,Jamaica/Wolmer's Boys' School) wrapped up the events for the Wolverines, finishing 12th in the long jump with a mark of 22-9 1/4 (6.94m).
Two former Wolverine stars also competed Friday in the One Mile Run Invitational, as Nick Willis (2003-06) and Kevin Sullivan (1994-98) finished first (3:55.93) and second (3:57.50), respectively.
Michigan returns to the track Saturday (Feb. 9) for day two of the Tyson Invitational on the Randall Tyson Track Center. Events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. CST.
