"Brian and Tim have displayed leadership skills on and off the golf course," said Sapp. "They are both very hard workers as well as great students. With the experience they have gained over their first three years they were the obvious choices to be captains for our team this year."
Ottenweller, a 2006 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree and two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, has 29 career events under his belt with 26 starts. He has posted a 76.14 career scoring average and has 13 career rounds under par, including a career-best five-under 66 in the first round of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Oct. 10, 2005, at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
Schaetzel, a 2007 GCAA Cleveland All-America Scholar and two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, has played in 30 career tournaments during his three years with the Wolverines, collecting 29 starts. He has started the last 27 events for the Maize and Blue and is carrying a 75.75 career scoring average after posting a career-best 74.81 season average during the 2006-07 campaign.
With classes and the tournament schedule nearly a month away, the Wolverines are wrapping up their summer play before heading back to open the 2007-08 season. The Maize and Blue will open the year by heading to West Lafayette, Ind., Saturday, Sept. 8, for Purdue's 36-hole Midwest Shootout at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex's Kampen Course, which is the scheduled site of the 2008 NCAA Championships.
