OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Freshman Angela Findlay (Lockport, Ill./East HS) of the University of Michigan softball team became just the fourth player in U-M softball history to earn Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America honors in her first collegiate season, earning All-America third-team distinction as an outfielder as announced on Wednesday (May 30) by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Findlay earned the 36th All-America distinction for the Wolverines in program history and became the 21st Wolverine player to earn All-America status in 30 years of Michigan softball. She joins Sara Griffin (utility, 1995), Kelsey Kollen (second base, 1999) and Marissa Young (utility, 2000) to accomplish the feat as a freshman. U-M has boasted at least one All-America selection in each of the last 13 seasons.
After solidifying her starting role in mid-February, Findlay was the Wolverines' most consistent performer at the plate in her first collegiate season, ranking second in batting average (.367) while claiming 28 runs, 54 hits -- including 11 for extra bases -- and 33 runs batted in. Named Michigan's Most Outstanding Player, she led her team with 10 multi-RBI performances and, for nearly, three months during the heart of the season, was not held hitless in back-to-back games.
Findlay was also voted All-Big Ten first team and was eligible for All-America distinction after being named to the All-Great Lakes Region first team two weeks ago. Michigan's other All-Region first-team selections were senior pitcher Lorilyn Wilson (Salem, Ore./Sprague HS), junior first baseman Samantha Findlay (Lockport, Ill./East HS) and junior centerfielder Alessandra Giampaolo (Pasadena, Calif./Polytechnic HS). Senior leftfielder Rebekah Milian (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) closed out the Wolverine all-region honorees on the second team.
