2006 TFM at Big Ten Outdoors -- Day 2 Quotes

Michigan Senior Brad Miller
On the weather conditions ... "When you run a race, you warm up, run the race and you're done. But for us, we have to warm up, strip down, take a jump, put all our clothes back on, cool off, get warmed up again ... I guess in cold weather and rain like this, the biggest thing is just to stay dry and warm between jumps."
On the strong Big Ten high jump field ... "I was surprised that it went as high as it did because of the weather. Some of those guys redshirted last year, and there were a lot of seniors out there. Once guys go out there and starting making the bar on their first attempt, you know you have to do the same. It gets infectious, and guys will often feed off of each other, especially at Big Tens. A few guys do well, and it seems everyone does well."
On the U-M high jump showing ... "I was happy with how the two of us finished collectively. It was the best that we've jumped as a duo for the year. It was the best outdoor championship for both of us. You can't ask for much more than that."
U-M Fifth-Year Senior Darren Adams
On the weather evening out the field ... "We had an idea that we would do pretty well. I don't think it was so much the weather bringing people back to us, because we had been doing well all year. But it definitely didn't hurt our cause."
On scoring in his final Big Ten outdoor meet ... "I've been mucking around with 2.10 all year. I would have liked to have made it this meet, but, at the same time, it's nice to end well. I think this was the first time I've scored outdoor. It seems normally I just don't do well, and, this year, I was pretty happy with scoring. We were hoping that one of us would break that Minnesota trio up top. I like when Brad jumps well, and I think it goes both ways, so I was happy to see us do pretty well. I just wish we could have cleared some heights earlier."
U-M Senior/Junior Andrew Bauer
On his 3,000-meter steeplechase race ... "It started out really well, and I was really comfortable. All of a sudden, about a mile into it, I didn't feel good at all. I just hit a mini wall. But with two laps to go, I just said, 'C'mon, I don't have another race for two weeks, and this is Big Tens, and I need to score some points for the team.' I knew what place I was in, around ninth or 10th, and I would be able to catch the guys in front of me. I felt good once I started to go. I got that second wind, and the last two laps were good."
On his final kick ... "When I hit the water jump, I knew I had them. Coming down the backstretch in that last lap, I knew I had at least one. The guys looked really slow going over the last water jump, and I knew I had something left in me."
On his steeplechase development ... "Last year, it was a treat to qualify for regionals, but it was almost a little early for me to do that. I've been developing really nicely, and my hurdle form is really coming along. I'm just getting used to running and hurdling at the same time, because the steeple is still a distance race. Hurdling comes second. I'm concentrating more on training and getting in running shape. I wanted to finish a little better today. I'm still looking for a race like Penn, because my confidence was really high after that race. But my training is going well, and I'm confident going into regionals."
