ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's track and field head coach Ron Warhurst announced Tuesday (Nov. 21) the signing of two recruits for the 2008 season. Craig Forys (Howell, N.J./Colts Neck) and Sean Jackson (Sherman Oaks, Calif./Notre Dame) signed letters of intent to join the Wolverines next season.
"We're off to a good start in putting together a great recruiting class," Warhurst said of the early signings. "We expect to sign more top talent at the April signing period."
Forys, a top national prospect, comes to Ann Arbor from Colts Neck High School in New Jersey, where he broke several state and course records. He was the New Jersey state champion in several events for both cross country and track and field, and broke a cross country state record that was more than a decade old. Last weekend, Forys set a new record for the Holmdel Park course at the Meet of Champions. The previous record was set in 1988. He has recorded a 4:05.8 relay split in the mile, and has finished a two-mile run in 8:56.
"Obviously, Craig Forys is a special and very talented young man," said Warhurst. "We are pleased that he decided that Michigan was the place to spend his academic and athletic career. We believe that he is a tremendous addition to both our cross country and track and field teams."
Jackson will join the Maize and Blue after attending Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Calif. He was a member of a State Champion 4x100-meter relay team that was nationally ranked, and was also a member of a nationally ranked 4x400-meter relay team.
"Sean Jackson will be a great addition to our sprint corp," Warhurst said. "He is versatile in that he can run 100m, 200m, and 400m and has been battle tested in major competitions."
