Michigan Head Coach Cheryl Burnett
Opening statement ... "There's no question that statistically when we're playing against a zone and we're turning it over 24 times and we're really trying to work hard to get the basketball in, and once our post players are receiving it they're not breaking the zone down to get some good outside looks. We're disappointed and we're struggling at this point, but don't take anything away from Central Michigan. They came in again and played their hearts out. These two teams haven't played for a long time -- certainly it's a great opportunity for them. After the last game, I really felt like our team tried to put some of the intangibles together and make some steps forward with that. There's no question that when a team is not executing and turns the basketball over, that's something for the coaching staff to consider. At the same time we were also having defensive breakdowns and giving some shots up close to the rim. So you combine all of that and we really had trouble maintaining any kind of confidence or any kind of momentum. The only bright spot -- we always try to find at least one bright spot -- was in the first half when we were transitioning and transitioning well. We really did a few things well, but again we really have to maintain that for 40 minutes."
On Michigan not playing scramble defense in the second half ... "Again we're struggling with some combinations. If you go and double and they hit a three because somebody isn't rotating over, it's hard. One of the defensive teams is not a team that is going to play well against the zone, so again that's my responsibility to try and figure out who should play when, because that's the balance."
