Wolverines Gear Up for Maize and Blue Intrasquad Meet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's and women's track and field teams will preview the 2006 season at their annual Maize and Blue Intrasquad meet, scheduled for Friday and Saturday (Dec. 2-3) at the U-M Indoor Track Building. The results of the intrasquad, which will be scored as a coed meet, will assist in the determination of the final U-M rosters.

On the women's side, three-time NCAA cross country All-American Rebecca Walter(Beverly Hills, Mich./Groves HS) and sophomore Nicole Edwards(Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey HS), a member of the 2005 NCAA champion distance medley relay team, will run the 3,000-meter run. Big Ten champion Theresa Feldkamp(Lorain, Ohio/Amherst Steele HS) will compete in the 800-meter event, while fifth-year seniors Stephanie Linz(Okemos, Mich./Okemos HS) and Jennifer Williams(Burton, Mich./Atheron HS), both NCAA qualifiers, will compete in the high jump.

For the men, junior Stann Waithe(Towson, Md./Loch Raven HS), a member of the Wolverines' 2005 NCAA champion distance medley relay squad, will represent the Blue team in the 200- and 400-meter events, while 2004 Big Ten 60-meter hurdles champion Jeff Porter(Somerset, N.J./Franklin HS) and Michael Whitehead(East Norristown, Pa./Norristown Area HS), the U-M school triple jump recordholder, will compete for the Maize team.

The Wolverines men's and women's track and field teams will open the 2006 season by hosting the Jack Harvey Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 7, at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
