INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- For only the second time in the last 15 years, the University of Michigan will not compete as a team at the NCAA Men's Cross Country Championships. The Wolverines were absent from the list of at-large selections announced Sunday evening (Nov. 13) by the NCAA, but sophomore Mike Woods (Ottawa, Ontario/Hillcrest HS), by virtue of his fourth-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional (Nov. 12), heads the list of four individual automatic qualifiers from the region.

Four teams from the Great Lakes Region -- Butler, Eastern Michigan, Indiana and Ohio State -- earned at-large selections to join automatic qualifiers Wisconsin, which finished first at the regional, and Notre Dame, the regional runner-up.
The NCAA Championships will be held Monday, Nov. 21, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind., with Indiana State University serving as the host. The 10,000-meter men's race is scheduled for noon and immediately preceded the 1:15 p.m. women's competition. Woods will look to improve on his 174th-place performance from last season's national meet.
