Kaiser Joins Wolverines Staff as Field Events Coach

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's track and field head coach Ron Warhurst announced Thursday (Aug. 26) the addition of David Kaiser to the coaching staff. Kaiser, who joins the U-M program with 17 years collegiate coaching experience, will replace Ricky Deligny as field events coach and assist Warhurst in the program's day-to-day operation, meet management, recruiting and other areas.

Prior to Michigan, Kaiser served as a men's and women's assistant coach at East Carolina (2002-03), DePaul (2002), Purdue (1998-2001), Wake Forest (1991-93) and Kansas (1986-91). Kaiser also served as interim co-head women's coach at Clemson (1997-98) after serving as an assistant in the Tigers staff from 1993-97.
Over his coaching career, Kaiser has instructed 24 NCAA All-Americans and 79 NCAA Championships qualifiers. During his tenure as the men's and women's field events coach at Purdue, Kaiser instructed 11 Big Ten Conference champions and helped guide the Boilermaker women to a pair of Big Ten team titles (1999 outdoor, 2001 indoor). Under his guidance, Kaiser's student-athletes broke seven Big Ten field-event records as well as 11 Purdue school records.
In 1998, while serving as the interim co-head women's coach at Clemson, Kaiser led the Tiger women to runner-up performances at the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Clemson student-athletes claimed 12 ACC individual titles during his five-year tenure with the program and set 10 school records.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Kaiser has served as the sports performance director at Velocity Sports Performance in Friendswood, Texas (2003-04). He is a member of the USA Track and Field Coaches Association and the National Throws Coaches Association and currently serves as the Heartland regional chairman of the USA Pole Vault Development Committee.
A native of Quinter, Kan., Kaiser graduated from the University of Kansas in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in health, physical education. In 1992, he earned an M.S. in education with a concentration in sports administration and kinesiology from Kansas.
