| TRAINING LOG: July 12-18 With the Olympics just four weeks away, Willis continued to increase his weekly mileage to re-build a solid base in prepararion for the 1,500-meter rounds in Athens. After nearly doubling his mileage last week from the week previous, Willis added even more miles this week -- recording 75 miles over six days -- his greatest weekly total since mid-April. | ||||

Despite a nagging ankle injury that significantly disrupted his training for nearly eight weeks, Brannen continued to race at a competative level against world-class opponents through much of June and July. He achieved two of the necessary qualifying requirements -- clocking the Olympic 'B' standard and placing among the top four at the Canadian Olympic Trials -- but was unable to hit the elusive 'A' standard and thereby fell just short in his bid to make the 2004 Olympic Games. Following the trials, Brannen is taking a couple weeks off to allow his ankle to fully heal before steadily increasing his weekly mileage in preparation for the upcoming cross country season. |
"Overall, it was another solid week of training. I had a terrible workout on Saturday, and I realized that I'm terrible at working out on my own. I was able to get through it, though, and I felt pretty good on my long run on Sunday. So, not all is lost." | |||
