Wolverines Remain Undefeated in Dual Match Season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team recorded its fifth straight victory of the dual match season Saturday afternoon (Feb. 14), easily defeating Toledo 6-1 at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines (5-0) swept the three doubles matches before posting straight-set victories in five of six in singles action.
Michigan started the day with dominating performances at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Junior Michael Rubin (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic HS) and freshman Ryan Heller (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North HS) did not allow Cristobal Toran and Todd Wojtkowski a single game in their 8-0 win at the second spot, while junior Vinny Gossain (Okemos, Mich./Okemos HS) and freshman Steve Peretz (Brooklyn, N.Y./The Dwight School) remained undefeated with an 8-1 victory over Travis Curran and Brian Rager at the third position. Senior Anthony Jackson (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet HS) and freshman Brian Hung (Hong Kong, China/Sagemont Virtual School) completed the sweep with an 8-5 decision over Khalid Al Nabhani and Freddy Gomez at No. 1.
The Wolverines earned their second point at No. 3 singles, as Wojtkowski had to retire the match due to injury. After winning the first set 6-2, Heller was on top 2-1 before Wojtkowski pulled up lame. Soon after, the Rubin brothers clinched the team victory with wins at the top and bottom slots. Sophomore Carey Rubin (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic HS) easily took care of Rager 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6, while Michael Rubin handed Al Nabhani a 6-1, 6-4 loss at No. 1.
Junior David Anving (Tvaaker, Sweden/Varbergs Gymnasieskola) kept things rolling with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Curran at No. 5. Peretz followed with another commanding 6-2, 6-1 win over Toral at No. 4. Gomez prevented the overall sweep with a tough 7-5, 6-4 win over Jackson at No. 2.
The Wolverines close out their six-match homestand against Brown next Sunday (Feb. 22). The match is scheduled for a noon start at the Varsity Tennis Center.

N O T E S
U-M has now won the doubles point against all five of its opponents this season, giving up just two of 15 matches. Anthony Jackson and Brian Hung remain remain undefeated at No. 1 (5-0), while the No. 2 tandem of Michael Rubin and Ryan Heller holds a 4-1 record. Vinny Gossain and Steve Peretz improved to 3-0 at No. 3, and Gossain and junior Josef Fischer (Nuernberg, Germany/Bradenton Academy) have split two matches at the third slot (1-1).
The Wolverines have won nine straight dual matches at the Varsity Tennis Center dating back to last season and 33 of their last 41 at home since the 2000-01 campaign. Michigan holds an overall record of 57-16 at the facility.
Michigan improves its all-time record against the Rockets to 14-0.
Ryan Heller and Steve Peretz remain undefeated in their dual match singles careers (5-0).
 Vinny Gossain's victory with Steve Peretz at No. 3 was the 20th doubles victory of his career.
 Michael Rubin reached his 20th career dual match singles victory with a win at No. 1.
With his win at No. 6, Carey Rubin reached his 20th career singles victory at Michigan.
