Okenwa and Relay Begins Outdoor Season on Top

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team sent a partial squad to the Aztec Track Classic on Saturday (March 24) at San Diego State University. Junior Ike Okenwa (San Diego, Calif./Morse HS) had a strong homecoming as he won the 200-meter dash in the Wolverines' first outdoor meet of the season.
In addition to Okenwa's first-place title, the 1,600-meter relay team ran its way to a first-place finish in the lone relay of the day.
The Wolverines produced other top performances on the track from their partial squad. Senior Ravi Smith (Southfield, Mich./Lathrup HS) took runner-up in the 400-meter dash, with freshman teammate Chris Yee (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS) taking fourth. Senior co-captain Josh Sellers (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee HS) also came in fourth, in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles.
