Michigan was the second of six Notre Dame victims on its way to the national championship. The Wolverines' meeting with Notre Dame will be their second this season vs. a team ranked in the top 25. Drawing a Crowd
Last season's Women's Collegiate Basketball Showcase, which pitted Michigan State and Eastern Michigan in the game preceding the Wolverines' win over Western Michigan, drew a crowd of 5,216. That crowd was the fifth largest regular-season crowd Michigan played in front of last season. The Michigan-Purdue Big Ten semifinal tilt drew a crowd of 7,781, which was the fifth-largest crowd to see Michigan play last season in any game.
Michigan Wins Pair Over Holiday Trip
A Thanksgiving weekend trip for road contests at New Hampshire (Nov. 23) and Syracuse (Nov. 25) proved a successful tune-up for the Wolverines' home opener. Michigan opened the trip on Friday night with an 81-61 win over New Hampshire in front of 1,153 fans at Lundholm Gymnasium in Durham, N.H. Led by 21 points from freshman Tabitha Pool (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS), who was making her first career start, the Wolverines overcame a two-point halftime deficit to outscore the Wildcats 41-19 in the second half. Raina Goodlow and Jennifer Smith each chipped in with 15 points in the win.
On Sunday afternoon, the Wolverines faced a 3-0 Syracuse team that was opening its own home schedule. Michigan jumped out early with red-hot shooting, the Wolverines shot .620 (31-50) for the game, including 8-12 from the three-point line, and led 47-31 at the half. Eleven second-half turnovers by U-M helped Syracuse cut the lead into single digits, but Alayne Ingram scored 17 of her game-high 25 points to help put the Orangewomen away.
Milestone Win
Michigan's win over New Hampshire was the 300th in the history of the program. Since the program began in 1973-74 the Wolverines have won 15 games or more on just six occasions, however, five of those seasons have occurred in the first five years of Sue Guevara's tenure as head coach. Michigan is now 301-430 overall and 217-319 since joining the NCAA in the 1982-83 season.
Freebies
Michigan, which matched a single-game team record with 30 free throws made in its 67-52 win over Detroit on Nov. 18, continued to shine at the charity stripe last weekend. In wins over New Hampshire and Syracuse, Michigan knocked down 27-29 from the line to run its season total to 73-90 (.811). On the other hand, Michigan's opponents have attempted just 40 charity tosses, making 25 for a season mark of .625. Michigan's mark of .933 (14-15) vs. Syracuse ranks fifth all-time for a single game. In fact, the Maize and Blue drilled its first 14 free throws of the day before Susana Jara (Quito, Ecuador/Tustin HS, Calif.) missed the front end of a one-and-one with less than a minute to play.

Jara, a former walk-on, took over the duties of point guard and came through with a career-high six assists to go with just one turnover in the victory over Syracuse. Two days earlier, Jara collected a career-best five thefts during the Wolverines win over New Hampshire. Jara drilled her first career triple vs. New Hampshire only to come back two days later with a pair of trifectas vs. Syracuse.

Gandy also got on track offensively in the win over Syracuse with 14 points on 5-10 shooting from the field and 4-4 from the line.
Approaching History
Senior guard Alayne Ingram, who matched a career high with five triples in the win over Syracuse, is now within one three-point field goal of matching the school record of 134 that was set by Molly Murray from 1995-98. Murray is currently the Wolverines' Director of Basketball Operations after a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Butler University.
