U-M Boat Takes First in Youth Race at Head of the Ohio

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team participated in the Head of the Ohio on Saturday (Oct. 6) and turned in a variety of results from boats seated randomly. The youth entry, which was comprised of eight freshmen and one sophomore, took first place with a time of 15:30.3, more than 19 seconds faster than the second-place squad from the St. Catherines Rowing Club.
Michigan fielded four boats in the Open Eight race, all of them seated randomly. The best finish was by the U-M C boat, turning in a time of 14:37.9 on the 2.8-mile course to finish fifth. A few seconds behind them in seventh place was the U-M A boat, with a time of 14:54.5. In ninth with a time of 15:15.9 was the U-M B squad. The fourth Michigan boat finished the race in 15:37.5, good for 13th place.
The Wolverines also entered a double and three pairs. The double finished third in its race, crossing the finish line in 18:40.6. The U-M C pair navigated the course in 18:20.7 to finish seventh. Next across the finish line was the U-M B crew with a time of 18:22.0. In 11th place with a time of 18:28.5 was the U-M A boat.
The Wolverines continue the fall season with the Head of the Charles on Sunday, Oct. 21, in Boston, Mass.
