SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Sophomore Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell HS) posted the fastest time on the University of Michigan women's cross country team for the third consecutive race as the Wolverines finished runner-up to Notre Dame Friday evening (Oct. 5) at the 17-team Notre Dame Invitational. Gallo, who finished eighth overall, covered the 5,000 meters of Burke Memorial Golf Course in 17:47.
Junior Jeanne Spink (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea HS), freshman Andrea Parker (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) and sophomore Rachel Sturtz (Traverse City, Mich./Central HS) also added top-25 finishes as the trio finished within four seconds of each other. Spink, who finished 19th, led the group with a time of 18:14, while Parker (22nd) and Sturtz (25th) posted times of 18:17 and 18:18, respectively.
With sophomore Katie Easton (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern HS) placing 30th with a time of 18:26 and senior Katie Ryan (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams HS) adding a 43rd-place showing at 18:33, the U-M team was able to finish with 104 points. Notre Dame, with two of the top three finishers, including individual champion Lauren King, won the team title with 58 points.
Michigan's next meet will be on Sunday, Oct. 14, when it hosts the Wolverine Interregional, its only home meet of the year, at the U-M Golf Course. The 6,000-meter women's race will begin at 10:30 a.m.
