McCain Splits Two Matches at ITA National Clay Courts

McCain, a sophomore returning lettermen, won a commanding first-round victory over Tulane's Darya Rose. McCain posted a straight-sets win, defeating Rose 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the second round. He was unable to pull through with the victory in a close second-round match and was eliminated from the tourney, losing in straight sets to Duke's Ted Rueger, 7-6 (8-5 in the tie-breaker) and 6-4.
Senior John Long (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) will begin competition in the qualifying portion of the tournament Tuesday (Sept. 21), while fellow senior Matt Wright (Wichita, Kan./Wichita Collegiate HS) waits until Thursday (Sept. 23) for action in the 64-player main draw field to get underway.
