Wolverines Drop Third Straight, Fall 3-2 to Ohio State

After falling behind 2-0 on Buckeye goals 1:05 and 4:05 into the game by Neal Rech and Eric Meloche, the Wolverines cut the deficit to one at 17:59 of the first period. Michigan had a two-man advantage when Sean Ritchlin (Conseco, N.Y.) scored his eighth goal of the season, punching in the rebound of Dale Rominski's (Farmington Hills, Mich.) shot after it slid through the legs of Ohio State goaltender Jeff Maund.
Ritchlin nearly tied the game 9:30 into the second period as Craig Murray (Penticton, B.C.) won a face-off to the right of the Ohio State net and directed it to Ritchlin. Ritchlin then unleashed a high shot which bounced off Maund's right shoulder and went wide off the post. However, Hugo Boisvert scored 1:50 later to give Ohio State its two-goal lead back.
Josh Langfeld (Coon Rapids, Minn.) added a power-play goal at 16:31 of the second period to close out the scoring at 3-2. Langfeld set a screen in front of the Buckeye goal and poked the rebound of Bubba Berenzweig's (Arlington Heights, Ill.) shot into the net for his 13th tally of the season.
The Wolverines generated numerous scoring chances in the third period, especially the line of Langfeld, Mark Kosick (Victoria, B.C.) and Mike Comrie (Edmonton, Alberta), who had an earlier assist, but Michigan could not net the tying goal.
Michigan returns to action next Saturday (Feb. 13) when the Wolverines travel to Western Michigan for a 7 p.m. game.
