No. 4 Michigan Steals One from Miami (Ohio)
12/4/1998 12:00:00 AM | Ice Hockey
The first period started out with plenty of hitting, but it was the second period which drew the penalties after play started to toughen up. In the second period, there were 10 penalties for 20 minutes. Michigan (10-2-2, 8-1-1 CCHA) took four of those while Miami picked up the other six.
Michigan did have its third controversial situation around the crease with 1:07 left in the second when Josh Langfeld (Coon Rapids, Minn.) thought he scored, but there was no red light or referee's signal and play continued.
Josh Blackburn (Choctaw, Okla.) had another spectacular night in goal, making 15 saves to preserve the win and register his third shutout of the season and second in four games. In goal for the RedHawks was Ian Olsen, who made 25 saves, including several one-on-one chances to keep Miami (3-11-3, 2-10-3 CCHA) in the game.
The Wolverines will take a seven-game unbeaten streak into Saturday night's (Dec. 5) game at Bowling Green. The 7 p.m. contest will be televised on Comcast Network Television.
