LOOKING TO THE WEEK AHEAD
The Michigan women's soccer team will host Toledo in a non-conference contest on Wednesday (Oct. 14) before taking to the road on Friday (Oct. 16) to battle Michigan State for state bragging rights in the Wolverines' Big Ten regular-season finale. Here is a brief look at the upcoming opponents:
Toledo: The Rockets and the Wolverines will be meeting for the third time. The last meeting was a 5-0 Michigan victory on Oct. 12, 1997, in Toledo, Ohio. Michigan holds a 2-0-0 lead in the all-time series. The Rockets are 0-1-0 all-time in Ann Arbor. Toledo is 6-8-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the MAC coming into Wednesday's game with U-M.
Michigan State: The Spartans and the Wolverines will be meeting for the fifth time. The last meeting was a 3-1 Michigan victory Oct. 26, 1997, in Ann Arbor. Michigan holds a 2-1-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Spartans are 2-9-2 overall and 0-7-1 in the Big Ten entering Friday's game with the Wolverines.
LOOKING BACK AT THE WEEK PAST
Michigan defeated its first top-25 team in three tries with Friday's (Oct. 9) 2-0 blanking of No. 16 Indiana at the Michigan Soccer Field. The Wolverines then took to the road, defeating Illinois 2-0 Sunday (Oct. 11) in Champaign. The two wins moved U-M to 4-3-1 in the Big Ten with one conference game remaining.
Oct. 9 vs. Indiana: The Wolverines defeated the Hoosiers 2-0 to pull their Big Ten record even at 3-3-1. Michigan was on the board at 14:42 when Kacy Beitel (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow HS) scored off a feed from Mari Hoff (Canton, Mich./Salem HS). Amber Berendowsky (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) added an insurance goal at 78:54 on a 20-yard blast into the upper corner. Carissa Stewart (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat HS) picked up her first shutout of the season, making six saves.
Oct. 11 at Illinois: The Wolverines recorded another 2-0 victory, defeating the Illini in Champaign. Kacy Beitel again opened the scoring for U-M, hitting the back of the net at 16:50. Emily Schmitt (Troy, Mich./Athens HS) added an insurance goal at 69:46, her fourth of the season. Jessica Jones (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) recorded her second shutout of the year, making five saves.

2-0 SHUTOUTS
The Michigan women's soccer team has recorded three shutouts on the season, all by the score of 2-0. U-M shut out Ohio State (Sept. 27), No. 16 Indiana (Oct. 9) and Illinois (Oct. 11). The Wolverines have not been scored upon in the last 243:03, dating back to the first half of the Minnesota game (Oct. 4).
BERENDOWSKY = RECORDS
Amber Berendowsky is on the verge of claiming every offensive season and career record at Michigan, and the junior still has another year of eligibility. Berendowsky tallied a goal in the second half ofthe Indiana game, giving her 32 career goals and earning her a share of the lead with Ruth Poulin (1994-97).
FINAL WEEK OF BIG TEN ACTION
Heading into the final week of the Big Ten season, the field is about set for the Big Ten Conference Tournament, to be hosted by Penn State Nov. 6-8. Illinois, Ohio State and Iowa are all in a battle for the last spot in the eight-team field. The remaining six teams are all playing for seeding purposes the rest of the way. Michigan State, winless in conference play, is the only team which has been eliminated.
