Nick Szczechowski was named Michigan’s Director of Basketball Operations in 2026 after joining the Wolverines as a graduate assistant following four seasons as a student manager, including two as head manager.
In his current role, Szczechowski helps oversee the program’s day-to-day operations while continuing to contribute in player development, scouting and analytics. He assists with individual and small-group workouts, prepares opponent scouting reports through film and data analysis, and produces individual and team shot-profile reports to support game planning and player development.
As Michigan’s head manager from 2024-26, Szczechowski led the student manager program, supervising a staff of 21 while coordinating daily practice operations. He implemented a performance-evaluation system for managers and developed practice statistical-tracking tools that helped the coaching staff evaluate shot selection and tailor strategy.
During his first two seasons as a student manager (2022-24), Szczechowski assisted with daily basketball operations, prepared practice and game film using Hudl and Synergy Sports, and helped simulate opponents during workouts.
During his time with the Wolverines, Szczechowski has been part of a championship-filled run that included the 2025 Big Ten Tournament title, the 2026 Big Ten regular-season and tournament crowns, and Michigan’s 2026 NCAA national championship.
A native of Wyandotte, Michigan, Szczechowski graduated from Riverview Gabriel Richard Catholic High School, where he was a member of the varsity football, basketball and golf teams. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management from U-M’s School of Kinesiology in 2026 with a 3.91 GPA.
