Brad Hawkins is in his first year assisting the Michigan safeties in 2026, and his third year coaching with the defense overall.
Hawkins was a five-year letter winner with the Wolverines (2017-21) as a safety and appeared in 56 games, a program record at the time. He started 31 games and was voted an alternate captain as a senior in 2021, when he wore No. 2, earned third-team All-Big Ten honors and helped lead U-M to its first Big Ten Championship since 2004. Hawkins was the team's Most Improved Player on Defense in 2019 and its Co-Defensive Skill Player of the Year in 2021. He was also an Academic All-Big Ten honoree as a senior.
Hawkins signed with the Atlanta Falcons ahead of the 2022 season, and later joined the New England Patriots, appearing in three preseason games. Following his time in the NFL, Hawkins returned to U-M as a graduate assistant for the 2024 season, working with the defense.
Working with Lamar Morgan under coordinator Wink Martindale, Hawkins helped the 2024 secondary produce 11 interceptions and 48 pass breakups as part of a No. 10-ranked defense. Cornerback Will Johnson became a second-team All-American. In 2025, the defense intercepted 13 passes with 46 breakups and finished No. 23 overall.
Hawkins and his wife, Jomari, have one daughter, Harlowe.
