Sarah Stanczyk is in her second season as the volunteer assistant coach for the University of Michigan women's soccer team.
Stanczyk, a native of Grosse Pointe, played the 2009 and 2010 seasons with Michigan after beginning her collegiate playing career at Connecticut. Primarily a defender, Stanczyk played in 37 matches (35 starts) during her two years, scoring one goal and tallying an assist. She was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2010, and two-time recipient of the U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award. Stanczyk graduated with a degree in brain, behavior and cognitive science.
After graduation, Stanczyk played semi-professional soccer with Indiana FC before stopping due to suffering consecutive hamstring injuries. She has volunteered at various Michigan summer camps, and coached with the Olympic Development Program (ODP) and at Ann Arbor's Pioneer High School. Stanczyk was accepted into the exercise physiology/sports psychology master's program at Eastern Michigan University and will begin work towards her degree this fall.
At Grosse Pointe South High School, Stanczyk was a four-year letterwinner and three-time team captain. She was a three-time All-State, All-Region and All-Conference selection, and MAC-Red Conference MVP in 2007. She played club soccer with the Bloomfield Force '89 Premier (2001-08), and was a member of the Michigan state ODP '89 team (2003-07), and Region II ODP team pool (2003-04).
