Michigan won five of the 23 unofficial Big Ten titles that were awarded from 1958-59 through 1980-81 based on regular-season games between U-M, Michigan State, Minnesota and Wisconsin (starting 1968-69). This includes one season (1958-59) without a conference affiliation after the WIHL disbanded and before the WCHA began play in 1959-60. The Big Ten began sponsoring men's ice hockey in 2013-14.
